Pablo Mateo / Wrong Copy [Artful Rifle / LACKREC. / MDR / Figure]DJ / Live - Travels from Berlin, GER
A resident of Berlin’s inner east-side for the best part of a decade, Colombian-born artist and mate from the hood, Pablo Mateo, is a DJ and producer of driving energy and flair. An in demand selector across Berlin and Germany, Mateo is no stranger to the dancefloors of Berghain, ://about blank, Griessmuehle and Tresor, to Frankfurt’s Robert Johnson, Leipzig’s Institut fuer Zukunft (IfZ) and Melt Festival. His 2017 Resident Advisor podcast, met with mass praise, provides a view into his spirited take on contemporary house and techno, touring listeners through an enlightened selection of soulful, deep and dubbier cuts.
With his label Artful Rifle founded in 2017 for what Mateo calls "non-serious" techno, critics file his productions as premium, adventurous, rhythm tracks. Furthermore, he’s been applauded for providing the leftfield sounds of Oliver Hafenbauer’s Die Orakel label with its best release to date, with one review reading: “Dekalog shows exactly what's so good about the thumping, emotional dance music,”. A prolific producer, Mateo’s career dates back to 2013 where he helped launch the Neukölln- based label LACK REC with a hat -trick of EPs, quickly snapped up and supported by the likes of Marcel Dettmann and finest Perlon selectors.
As Wrong Copy in 2016 he netted the 20th releases for Marcel Dettmann Records, which earned him spots on MDR showcases, to international bookings further afield at Stockholm’s Under Bron, Concrete in Paris, Pickle Factory London and Closer in Kiev. Having formed a working relationship with Ron Wilson and the sounds of his 777 label and their ossajams project, he inaugurated its edgier FFF sub-platform with the sleeper anthem, “Second Exit”, while his remixes have graced the likes of Ostgut Ton via Nick Höppner’s Folk album, to featuring alongside a who’s-who of house music heads to rework the music of legendary Japanese producer Satoshi Tomiie.
The alive and electric feel of Mateo’s music mirrors his personality and approach to the dancefloor, which is nothing short of bombastic, fresh, diverse and ready to be heard.
